Grace and Greatness
In a world obsessed with visibility, status, and self-promotion, Jesus offers a different way to live. This week, Pastor Mark explores what true greatness looks like in God’s kingdom—and it’s nothing like the filtered, competitive culture we swim in every day.
Drawing from Jesus’ teaching in Mark 10, we see that the desire for greatness isn’t the problem. The problem is how we define it. While James and John asked for the seats of honor next to Jesus, He gently redirected them: “Whoever wants to be great among you must be your servant.” In God’s economy, greatness is measured not by power or position but by humble service.
This message unpacks how grace reshapes the way we “play the game” of life. Instead of striving for approval, we live from God’s overflowing love. Instead of competing for status, we lift others up. Through the example of Jesus washing His disciples’ feet, and modern expressions like Pope Francis’ Holy Thursday foot-washing, we see grace in action—love that kneels, serves, and restores.
Pastor Mark also highlights the quiet heroes of our own congregation, reminding us that everyday acts of kindness, encouragement, and selfless service are the real markers of Christian greatness.
If you’ve ever wondered what it means to lead like Jesus—to choose a towel over a title—this message will inspire you to live with purpose, humility, and grace. Because when the game of life is over, what matters most is not the spotlight we stood in but the people we lifted along the way.
Key Idea: True greatness is grace in action—the power of God’s love working through humble people to lift others up.
